On May 21, 2019, the Lower Merion Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) awarded Beaumont at Bryn Mawr its “Go for the Green” award in the multi-family residential category. The award ceremony was held at the beautiful Appleford Estate in Villanova, where Dr. Stephens accepted the honor on behalf of Beaumont’s Green Committee.
During his brief remarks, Dr. Stephens pointed out that sustainability and environmental stewardship are not new to Beaumont. With unusual foresight, the developers incorporated concepts such as geothermal pumps and old growth woodlands into their plans for a different kind of retirement community.
“Many different Beaumont residents have served on the Green Committee over the years and deserve credit for this honor,” said Dr. Stephens. “Through their care and commitment, we have been able to expand the rain gardens and drainage fields, re-introduce native plantings, enhance the capacity of our geothermal pumps, and establish campus-wide composting and a best-in-class recycling program, to name but a few initiatives.”
The “Go for the Green” award is sponsored annually by the EAC to raise awareness of environmental issues throughout Lower Merion Township, and to recognize residents, businesses, and organizations for their achievements in improving the quality of the environment for all.
